Flying Sheep Hawke’s Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2012 and 2011

29-Aug-2013
The Osawa vineyard, sited in Kereru Road, Maraekakaho, is inland and at a slightly higher altitude for Hawke’s Bay grapegrowing. It has proven to be especially suitable for the white wine varieties, especially Sauvignon Blanc and the aromatics, which are deemed generally better in the South Island. Here, I review the 2012 and 2011 ‘Flying Sheep’ Sauvignon Blancs from Osawa wines, made by Rod McDonald. They appear to represent the different growing conditions of the two vintages, the cooler 2012 and warmer 2011. www.osawawines.co.nz
