Folium Vineyard 2013 Marlborough and Reserve Sauvignon Blancs

19-Sep-2014
Under Takaki Okada’s detailed and precise management the fruit from the Folium Vineyard in the Brancott Valley has yielded some very high quality Marlborough wine. I was impressed with the inaugural 2011 Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir wines and just recently the 2012 releases (and a preview of the 2013 Pinot Noir – click here to see my reviews). Takaki has two tiers, the ‘estate’ and ‘Reserve’ wines, based on the age of the plantings. With Sauvignon Blanc, the younger vines were planted in 2003 and the more mature in 1996. The soils of the blocks are different, adding another factor in the difference of expression of the bottlings. To ensure the wine display vine age and site character, the vinification is essentially identical for both wines. Here, I review the new 2013 Sauvignon Blanc releases. www.folium.co.nz
