Four Hawk Day 2014 Sauvignon, Pinot Gris and Rosé

16-Oct-2014
Marlborough grapegrowers Adrian Landon-Lane and Jo Janssen have settled into commercialising their own ‘Four Hawk Day’ label with a well-established connection with Dave Tyney as their winemaker, and labelling that refines that of their inaugural 2012 vintage. The name ‘Four Hawk Day’ refers to the family game of sighting hawks in the skies, with one or two being relatively common, three hawks rare, but four hawks seen as "the best possible day”. Their Waihopi Valley foothills vineyard represents 20 years of viticulture and is planted primarily in Sauvignon Blanc and a smaller amount of Pinot Noir, with Pinot Gris added recently, which is expected to bear for 2015. In the meantime, they have obtained fruit from the neighbouring ‘Pear Tree’ vineyard for this variety. Here, I review the new 2014 Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Rosé releases. www.fourhawkday.co.nz
