Framingham ‘F-Series’ New White Releases

20-Aug-2013
The ‘F-Series’ wines from Andrew Hedley, Andrew Brown and James Bowskill at Framingham in Marlborough are the innovative and slightly funky expressions that give the team a bit of latitude to have a ‘play around’ and take some risks. While the quantities made are small, usually well under 200 dozen of each made, when they are made, the flow-on effect can be profound. The techniques learnt can be applied to the regular ‘Framingham’ range, and indeed, the main wines have taken a noticeable step up in interest, character, texture and quality. For many drinkers and commentators, the ‘F-Series’ wines are very exciting, and arguably, some of Marlborough’s top wines have appeared under this label. Here, I review the new release 2010 Sauvignon Blanc, and 2012 ‘Old Vine’ Riesling and Chardonnay, the latter wine the first of this variety in the ‘F-Series’, but this wine the last of the old vine Mendoza clone fruit. www.framingham.co.nz
