Framingham F-Series Old Vine Riesling 2014 and Montepulciano 2011

12-Jun-2015
One of Marlborough’s well-established wineries, Framingham has a unique place as one of the more ‘funky’ producers in the region. As with most in Marlborough, the output is geared towards Sauvignon Blanc, but Framingham has the reputation as arguably the country’s best producer of Rieslings. Those with a detailed perspective will note that the Framingham ‘ranges, including ‘estate’ and limited-edition, alternative ‘F-Series’ wines are indeed more way out than most. Here, I review the 2014 ‘F-Series’ ‘Old Vine’ Riesling, given skin contact and lees aging, and the 2011 ‘estate’ Montepulciano, the variety better-known in the Marche and Abruzzi regions of Italy. These are certainly ’far-out’ wines. www.framingham.co.nz
