Framingham’s Marlborough Classics

25-Sep-2012

The team at Framingham are producing Marlborough classics both conventionally and funkily. The Framingham ‘estate' labels are ‘right down the line' in winemaking and stylistic terms, and they have been the mainstay of the brand. The ‘F-Series' tier was recently introduced to allow for more diverse expressions that can use unusual varieties and adventurous if not risky winemaking to make wines that will appeal to the more interested or daring drinker. These ‘F-Series' wines are not conservative, but can be seen as ground-breaking. Maybe they will become the classics of the future? It is heartening to see Framingham's owner the Portuguese giant Sogrape give winemaker Andrew Hedley and his assistant Andrew Brown the latitude to make such wines. It adds to the uniqueness of the brand and the interest of the region. The Framingham wines are now being distributed in New Zealand by Vintners N.Z. Ltd. Here are three ‘classic' new releases. www.framingham.co.nz
