Fromm Winery – Precision Marlborough Pinot Noir and Syrah

30-Aug-2012
One of the great Marlborough and New Zealand producers of Pinot Noir also has a surprisingly repute for Syrah, especially on the international stage. Established by George Fromm in 1992 to make distinctive single vineyard wines of uncompromising quality, and now owned by Pol Lenzinger and George Walliser, the key to the consistency of both the Pinot Noir and the Syrah wines has been winemaker Hatsch Kalberer. A man who devotes much thought to all the factors that contribute to the style and quality of any wine he has an involvement with, Hatsch approaches everything and carries out all action in winemaking with supreme precision. Hatsch's winemaking partner William Hoare has taken on the same detailed approach, and the latest Fromm wines are better than ever. I review the new release Pinot Noir and Syrah wines in the works. www.frommwinery.co.nz
