GeorgeTown Vineyard Pinot Noir 2010 and 2011

18-Mar-2014
The GeorgeTown Vineyard situated at the Cromwell entrance to the Kawarau Gorge in Central Otago is considered to be a particularly beautiful one in the Burgundian mould. It was established by the late Gary Andrus in 2002, who close-planted 7,100 vines of Pinot Noir, clones 777, 5, 667, 115 and 114, on the 1.5 ha site with alluvial soils. GeorgeTown is owned by Ian Dee and Marianne Sommer, who experienced success with the 2007 vintage wine winning the Champion Exhibition Red Wine Trophy at the 2009 Air New Zealand Wine Awards. I enjoyed the 2009 vintage wine, rating it at 5-stars (click here to see my review). The viticulture is managed by Ian and the wines are made with the assistance of Duncan Forsyth at the Mount Edward facility. GeorgeTown Vineyard is a member of Artisan Winemakers of Central Otago. Here, I review the 2010 and 2011 releases. www.georgetown.co.nz
