Hawkshead Central Otago Pinot Gris 2013

10-Apr-2014
Although focussed on Pinot Noir, Denis Marshall and Ulrike Kurenbach make Pinot Gris and Riesling to provide balance and breadth to their portfolio of wines. The land where the Hawkshead Vineyard is situated in Gibbston has been owned by Denis since 1995, and it was in 2001 that he began planting Pinot Noir. Pinot Gris followed in 2006, when 2ha were planted in the lower terrace next to S.H. 6. The vines produced their first vintage wine in 2006. Riesling is sourced from contracted fruit. The quality of the whites is as high as the excellent red wines. Here, I review the 2013 Pinot Gris, held back a little longer for the benefit of the wine. www.hawksheadwine.com
