Hopesgrove – Hillside Paki Paki Hawke’s Bay Wines

06-Nov-2012

Hopesgrove is the label of Pieter Koopman who owns a 16.2 ha site with close-planted vines on the Paki Paki hills southwest of Hastings. Chardonnay and MS clone Syrah are planted relatively densely on the limestone-influenced soils and the vines tended with much attention. The wines are made by Pieter at Craggy Range, where he is the cellarmaster. I reviewed the 2010 Chardonnay and 2009 Syrah in November last year (click here to view), and deemed the wines exciting. The 2011 Chardonnay and 2010 Syrah vintages were cooler and thus more challenging, one can see Pieter had the skills and experience to make interesting wines again. With the new release, Pieter has added a limited quantity, barrel selection 'Silver Lining' Syrah. Here are my reviews. www.hopesgrove.com
