Hua Pono Sauvignon Blanc 2013

huaHua Pono is the wine label of Ohui Vineyard, a small 2.5 ha planting, part of a 150 ha farm in Opoutere in the Coromandel. The vineyard and farm, established by the Kimpton family has Jayden Blomfield as the viticulturist, and is in organic conversion. In Maori, ‘hua’ means ‘fruit’ and ‘pono’ means ‘true and authentic’. The Syrah, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc vines were planted in 2000 in volcanic soils, deemed similar to that of Waiheke Island. The wines are made by Hayden Penny, of William Murdoch in Hawke’s Bay took over as winemaker in 2013. www.ohuivineyard.co.nz
