Johanneshof Maybern’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2013

17-Feb-2014
Although Warwick Foley and Edel Everling have a strong German wine industry background and training with the aromatic white varieties, Pinot Noir is their undiscovered treasure that reflects the situation that is in Germany too. Warwick and Edel have made a series of serious Pinot Noirs from their ‘Maybern’ vineyard situated directly above their cellars. The vines are close-planted and unirrigated on this 30° north-west facing site on sandstone soils with a high iron content. The vineyard is named after May and Bernard, Warwick’s parents. Here, I review the new 2013, about to be fully released, made with a little more approachability in mind. www.johanneshof.co.nz
