Johner Estate 2015 White and 2014 Pinot Noir Releases

21-Sep-2015
Searching for an ideal terroir to grow and make Pinot Noir to complement his work in the Kaiserstuhl region of the Baden in Germany, and outside that of Burgundy, Karl Johner established Johner Estate at the end of Dakins Road in Gladstone in the Wairarapa in 2001. Johner Estate now has 7.2 ha of varied Burgundian Pinot Noir clones along with Sauvignon Blanc and 12 other varieties, and produces relatively small volumes of a broad and diverse range of styles. The wines are made as accompaniments to food in the European style, but capture the bright fruit expression of New Zealand wines and reflect the particular terroir of Gladstone. Here, I review a selection of 2015 white and 2014 Pinot Noir-based wines. www.johner-estate.com
