Julicher Martinborough Pinot Noir 2010

01-Nov-2012
The Te Muna Road sub-district of Martinborough is studded with stars producing top-flight Pinot Noir wine. Establishing Julicher Estate in 1998, Wim Julicher, Sue Darling and their winemaker Outi Jakovirta have enjoyed some of the district's success, and in doing so are regarded as one of the leading producers there. The Julicher Estate Pinot Noir 2006 won the Champion Wine of the Show at the 2007 N.Z. International Wine Show, and the 2008 winning the Champion Wine Trophy at the 2009 Air N.Z. Wine Awards. Even the second tier '99 Rows' has won many gold medal awards. This year, in 2012, Julicher Estate celebrates 10 years of winemaking, the 2002 Pinot Noir their first release, and clearly the track record is an enviable one. The current release Pinot Noir is the 2010, from a cooler vintage producing lighter wines with less amplitude, but greater aromatic interest.
