Kahurangi Estate Portfolio Diversity

11-Mar-2014
Besides the Kahurangi Estate wines of Nelson, Greg and Amanda Day operate a burgeoning portfolio packed full of diverse wines from New Zealand and overseas. The wines available range from those offering extremely good value to super-premium examples. Here, I review a broad selection, in the value end for their categories. Melness Wines was established in North Canterbury by the Marshalls who sold the business to Kahurangi. Sacred Earth is a private label designed in Australia for the ‘low end off-premise sector’. Tyrrell’s is one of the Hunter Valley’s great names. Mouton Cadet was founded by Baron Philippe de Rothschild and is now a significant negociant label, still based in Bordeaux. Mapu is the label for the Chilean wines of Mouton Cadet. The Barbanera family have been making Tuscan wine since 1938. www.kahurangiwine.com
