Kingsmill – Boutique from Bannockburn

14-May-2011
One of the generally lesser-known of Central Otago producers, Kingsmill has garnered an outstanding reputation among those in the know. The operation was established in 2000 when Phillip Horn and Donna Abrams purchased a small plot of land above the historic Bannockburn sluicings with the express purpose of making premium Pinot Noir. The vineyard, next to the Stewart Town ruins and Tippet's Dam was established with the guidance of viticulturist Karen Olssen and the Kingsmill winemaker is the highly experienced Matt Connell. The first releases were the 2006 Pinot Noir and 2007 ‘Tippet's Race' Riesling. The Pinot Noir in particular has received excellent press and show results. The current releases are reviewed here. www.kingsmillwines.co.nz
