Konrad and Mount Fishtail 2011 Sauvignon Blancs

19-Mar-2012

Konrad Hengstler fell in love with Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and brought his wife Sigrun and family to New Zealand to make the wine, planting their first vines in 1996. Konrad Wines has expanded the range to Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, and now to Gruner Veltliner, the wines from their two vineyards, one in the Wairau Valley and the other in the Waihopi Valley, totalling 40 ha in area. Gewurztraminer, Riesling and the Gruner Veltliner are planted in the ‘home' Waihopi site. The Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc wines are made from the two sites for a range of blending options, consistency and completeness. The operation is a family one and hands-on, but they also have the services of the highly experienced Jeff Sinnott in the winemaking. Here are reviews of the two 2011 Sauvignon Blancs, the Konrad and sibling tier Mount Fishtail. www.konradwines.co.nz  www.mountfishtailwines.co.nz
