Lamont Central Otago Pinot Gris 2012

18-Jul-2013

Since taking over the ‘Lamont’ brand, Craig Gasson has seen the Pinot Gris wine taken to a greater level of complexity and interest with increased lees work. The 2011 was vinified in a similar fashion as Riesling to preserve the aromatic purity, whereas in 2012, there was a step up in lees work to add extra layers of flavour and greater textural qualities. Although both styles are equally valid, Craig is heading down the latter path, as I saw with a tank sample of the 2013, he vinified with James McElrea at Maude Winery. Here is my review of the new release 2012 Pinot Gris. www.lamontwines.com
