Lawson’s Dry Hills 2011 Aromatics and Pinot Noir

29-Apr-2013
One of the most reliable of top producers in Marlborough is Lawson’s Dry Hills. The 2011 vintage was the 20th for the winery and the wines reflect the maturity of the vineyards and the confidence of the vineyard and winemaking team. Barbara Lawson continues to move forward and upwards with the support of her staff. Last year, the company purchased the Blind River Wines business which will allow access to Awatere Valley fruit. Winemakers Marcus Wright and Rebecca Wiffen strive to further lift the quality of the wines as they enjoy the greater range of fruit and older vines. I was shown a sample of the yet-to-be released 2011 vintage of the Pinot Noir at the Pinot Noir 2013 conference which demonstrated a step up for Lawson’s Dry Hills with that variety. Here, I review this wine fully, along with the standard bearing Riesling and Gewurztraminer from the same vintage. www.lawsonsdryhills.co.nz
