Le Clos du Caillou – Southern Rhone Class

08-Apr-2013

Le Clos du Caillou is the winegrowing business of Sylvie Pouizin who with her late husband Jean-Denis Vacheron took over the family estate in 1995. She owns 8.5 ha of red and 0.57 ha of white varieties in Chateauneuf-du-Pape and 44 ha of vineyards for Cotes du Rhone and Cotes du Rhone Villages, made with her oenologist Bruno Gaspard with consultancy from Phillipe Cambie. The vineyards are certified organic The wines are imported and distributed in New Zealand by Federal Geo who have reinforced their portfolio with strong domestic and international lines. www.federalgeo.co.nz The Clos du Caillou wines of the southern Rhone show great class.  They appear to deliver considerably more than expected given their appellation, and are also from a superlative vintage. They are a welcome addition to the market.  www.closducaillou.com
