Locharburn 2012 Rosé & 2011 Riesling

29-Oct-2012

Planted to Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, Chris and Jenny Hill's 14 ha ‘Locharburn' site on terraces at Lowburn, overlooking Lake Dunstan is gradually realising it potential and revealing its unique character. Planted with the advice of James Dicey, the first crop was in 2005, and the wines made by Carol Bunn until the 2011 vintage. From 2012, Jenn Parr of Terra Sancta took over the winemaking. This tight team has allowed the vineyard to speak, and is clear the wines have a youthful firmness and depth that requires some bottle-age to see the wines soften and open out fully. This of course is an indicator of potential and quality, and the Hills can be pleased their vineyard produces wines which possess this trait. Here are my reviews of the new release 2012 Rosé and 2011 Riesling. www.locharburnwines.co.nz
