Locharburn Central Otago 2014 Sauvignon Blanc and 2013 Pinot Noir

09-Sep-2014
The success of Central Otago Pinot Noir can be partly attributable to the bold and up-front fruity styles that many describe as ‘fruit bombs’. Delivering immediate pleasure, they make instant friends. As the Central Otago vignoble grows in maturity, a number of districts and vineyard sites are becoming recognised for their more sophisticated, elegant and ageworthy expressions. The 14 ha ‘Locharburn’ vineyard at Lowburn on terraces that overlook Lake Dunstan, near Cromwell appears to be one of these sites. Owners Chris and Jenny Hill have noted that all the wines, not just the Pinot Noir, have a tautness and firm depth the requires bottle age to show their true character and potential. Here, I review the new release 2014 Sauvignon Blanc and 2013 Pinot Noir, made by their winemaker Jenn Parr. www.locharburnwines.co.nz
