Mahi Marlborough Rosé 2015

05-Oct-2015
The Rosé category has experienced a boom over the last few years and must be taken seriously due to its considerable growth. The market is beginning to fully appreciate what the style offers in contemporary living, and is becoming increasingly demanding of quality, where the fruit must be sufficiently ripe, and the wine must be thirst-quenching. Winegrowers must make the wine from fruit dedicated to the style from the start, rather than as a by-product of red table wine production; the fruit picked early, for flavour and freshness. Brian Bicknell made his first Mahi-labelled rosé with the 2014 vintage. He must have thoroughly enjoyed it, as to make it and this second release, he and his winemaking staff jumped into the press and stomped all around to split the berries before leaving the juice for skin contact and colour. What fun! Here is my review of the 2015 Mahi Rosé. www.mahiwine.co.nz
