Marisco’s ‘The King’s Series’ 2014 Sauvignon, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay

27-Mar-2015
The ‘King’s Series’ and ‘The Ned’ are the principal brands of Marisco Vineyards, the wine venture of Brent Marris, who established a 268 ha property on the banks of the Waihopi River after selling Wither Hills in 2002. No expense has been spared, and Brent commissioned a new 6,000 tonne winery in 2009 to take the wines into the future. The ‘King’s Series’ wines are named after the scandalous de Marisco family ancestors of the 12th and 13th centuries who had tempestuous relationships with the English monarchy. The range includes Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Noble Sauvignon Blanc, and each the labels tells a de Marisco family tale behind the name. The wines have a successful show track record and clearly show classical Marlborough style and expression. Here, I review the new 2014 releases of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. www.marisco.co.nz
