Matariki ‘Quintology’ 2007

05-Oct-2011
Matariki was established in 1981 when John and Rosemary O'Connor purchased a site in Gimblett Road. In 1992 they purchased a further 170 ha, of which 60 ha is kept as the mainstay of grape resource for the Matariki wines, 1997 being the first vintage. The Matariki brand is named after the small cluster of stars in the Taurus constellation and has a special significance, in Maori and other cultures, its appearance signifying a new cycle of the growing season. Rebecca Coghill is the winemaker, and Robyn Hillis the vineyard manager. The ‘Quintology' is the flagship blend of the five key red varieties planted in the Gimblett Gravels. www.matarikiwines.co.nz
