Maude 2014 Aromatic Whites and 2013 Pinot Noir

10-Oct-2014
The Maude winery in Wanaka has taken on a most important role as the winemaking facility where a number of Central Otago’s notable and emerging wines are being made. This reflects the skills of and care taken by Dan and Sarah-Kate Dineen and their team in handling fruit and sensitively making the appropriate styles of wine from that fruit. It is, no doubt the same care and attention they apply in making their own ‘Maude’ and ‘Mt Maude’ wines. The ‘Mt Maude’ wines are made exclusively from fruit from Sarah-Kate’s family vineyard while the ‘Maude’ wines incorporate grapes from other sites. With these, the Dineens have been free to push the boundaries, more so than they would in making wines for their clients. However, I sense that their clients may want some of that extra interest built into their wines too, having seen the success of the Maude bottlings! Here, I review the new release 2014 Mt Maude Rieslings and Maude Pinot Gris, along with the 2013 Maude Pinot Noir. The white wines are pristine and beautiful examples of Central Otago raciness, and the Pinot Noir shows structure and complexing interest. www.maudewines.com
