Maui and Tiki Estate 2015 Pinot Gris, and Tiki Estate 2015 Pinot Noir Rosé

02-Oct-2015
The ‘Maui’ and ‘Tiki’ brands of Royce and Sue McKean show the quality of the fruit from the company’s Wairau Alpine Valley vineyards. The site of the company’s 225 ha of vines was initially deemed too cool for successful viticulture, but as with many parallel developments, modern grapegrowing and frost management have made such vineyards commercially viable, yielding a number of wines that have won top awards in wine shows, as well as being runaway sellers in the market. Here, I review the 2015 vintage Pinot Gris wines from the ‘Maui’ and ‘Tiki’ ‘Estate’ tiers, and the 2015 Tiki ‘Estate’ Pinot Noir Rosé, the latter wine a gold medal winner at the recent 2015 NZIWS competition. www.tikiwine.com
