Millton ‘Clos de Ste Anne’ 2010 Releases

17-Apr-2012

James and Annie Millton's concept of developing ‘Clos de Ste Anne' as a separate estate with its own vineyards and winery are steadily progressing. The vineyards have produced wine that James and Annie consider reflect the individual character and terroir of the site as well as the distinctive growing and winemaking approaches that have evolved. The 12.15 ha ‘Clos de Ste Anne' estate is based around ‘Naboth's Vineyard' on the steep slope at the end of Papatu Road, originally planted in 1981. Farmed biodynamically since 1989, the purchase of land around ‘Naboth's' in 2001 allowed the natural extension of the estate, and the plantings of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were supplemented with more Pinot Noir as well as Viognier, Syrah and Chenin Blanc. The vineyard slope, and close-planting density require hands-on precision viticulture, which of course, suits the Millton's philosophy for detail and quality. Here are my reviews of the 2010 vintage releases from the ‘Clos de Ste Anne' estate, there being no ‘The Crucible' Syrah due to the small crop size. www.millton.co.nz
