Mission ‘Jewelstone’ Hawke’s Bay Cabernet/Merlot 2009

04-Jul-2011
This wine has made recent news in yet another ‘Judgement of…' tasting that has told of the closing gap between the great wines of Bordeaux and the world's growing regions that are using Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc as their base material. June 2011 saw the results of a Hong Kong masterclass led by Lisa Perotti-Brown MW which tasted Gimblett Gravels 2009 vintage wines alongside clarets from the 2008 vintage, including the five first growths. Coming in third place in ratings following Chateau Mouton-Rothschild and Chateau Haut-Brion was Mission ‘Jewelstone' Cabernet/Merlot 2009. With the pricing of the Bordeaux winners at NZ$1,000.00 and more, and the Mission wine at $39.00, the New Zealand wine won on value. The result reflects the quality that Mission Estate wines have attained in the past few years. www.missionestate.co.nz
