Moana Park 2013 and 2012 Estate Series Releases

06-Sep-2013
The Moana Park boutique winery of Dan and Kaylea Barker is as contemporary in outlook as any Hawke’s Bay producer could be. Making a broad and varied range of traditional and newer varieties and styles over the value ‘Estate Series’ and ‘Single Vineyard Reserve’ tiers, the Barkers take their wines with great gusto to the exciting, new and growing markets in addition to the well-established. Their strength in employing social media complements their conventional strategies as well. However, it is their philosophy of minimal intervention to make wine as naturally as possible to be low allergen that is a feature. Organic and sustainable vineyard practices and the least usage of chemicals is the basis of making the wines, which are also accredited suitable for vegetarian. James Wilkie works alongside Dan in making the wines and Kerryn Limmer is the vineyard manager. The company owns 8 vineyards, including the ‘Home’ block sited at Puketapu where the cellar door is located, two in the Gimblett Gravels, one coastal-influenced and also Dartmoor, and three in the Esk Valley district, this diversity providing insurance as well as different styles. Here I review a selection of new release 2013 and 2012 ‘Estate Series’ wines. www.moanapark.co.nz
