Montechez – Mendoza Malbec

06-Mar-2012

Montechez Fincas y Bodegas is the creation of a group of Argentinian farming businessmen who entered the fine wine scene in 2005. ‘Montechez' expresses the romantic connection between the highlands (‘montes') and the moon (‘chez'). With a focus on making the best Mendoza wine possible, Montechez employ ‘precision viticulture' for quality fruit with highest consideration for environmental issues. A 75 ha all-Malbec vineyard is sited at Alto Ugarteche, the ‘First Winemaking Region', in Lujan de Cuyo, and the company's other two sites, the 52 ha La Consulta and 63 ha Altamira vineyard, planted to Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay, are in the Valle de Uco region. Two of the specialist Malbec releases are now available in New Zealand (For availability go to: www.south2south.co.nz). They are reviewed here. www.montechez.com
