Mount Patriarch 2013 Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris, and 2012 Pinot Noir

03-Dec-2013
The mission statement for the Naked Vine Wine company which owns the 70 ha ‘Patriarch’ vineyard in the Upper Wairau Valley is "to make quality, flavoursome organic wine at a reasonable price level”. I’ve tasted the ‘Naked Vine’ releases over the last couple of years and can say they’ve achieved that goal. My review of the BioGro certified organic 2013 Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris, plus 2012 Pinot Noir, all of 3-star level, confirms this (click here to see my reviews). The ‘Mount Patriarch’ expressions of the same wines are now being released, these being made, according to Gerrit van Asch, the managing director, from fruit from the premium parts of the vineyard. Here, I review the new wines, made by the company’s winemaker John Jackson, using the Marlborough Vintners facility. www.patriarch.co.nz
