Mt Beautiful North Canterbury Pinot Noir 2013

07-Aug-2014
Established in 2004 by American-based New Zealander David Teece and his wife Leigh, who are experts in the academic and business world, Mt Beautiful created new viticultural district near Cheviot in North Canterbury. Their winegrowing venture has matured and their wine enjoys a very healthy market presence in the United States, where the company has its main administration, marketing and sales operations. Of the 67 ha of vines planted, 20% is devoted to Pinot Noir, second to Sauvignon Banc. The Pinot Noir is planted on the slopes of the South blocks, with 50% in Dijon clones 667 and 777, the rest covering 7 other clones, including 5, 6, 114, 115. Sam Weaver, winemaker from the start, makes a subtle and complex style. Here, I review the new 2013 vintage. www.mtbeautiful.co.nz
