Naked Vine Wine – Organic For All To See

19-Dec-2012
The Naked Vine Wine Company is the business of four friends, Chris Royds, Dean Steele, Ben Douglas and Gerrit van Asch who established the 70 ha ‘Patriarch' vineyard in the Upper Wairau Valley in 2008 to make "quality, flavoursome organic wine at a reasonable price level”. Planted with organics as a foundation philosophy, the vineyard is spread over two terraces, the upper 33 ha are certified BioGro organic, and the remaining 37 ha on a lower terrace will be converted in due course. Fruit from other organic vineyards supplements the ‘Patriarch' fruit for style and blending options. Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir have been released, with Chardonnay and Gruner Veltliner in the works. The premium brand is ‘Naked Vine', supported by ‘The Marlborough Range'. The winemaker is John Jackson, formerly of Grove Mill, and the wines made at the Marlborough Vintners facility. www.patriarch.co.nz
