Ngatarawa Glazebrook Chardonnay 2015

22-Jul-2015
Alwyn Corban and Ngatarawa are synonymous with the Chardonnay variety. In establishing the Ngatarawa winery in Hawke’s Bay in 1981, the variety took pride of place, Alwyn having researched its making during his training in California. Oak aging and fermentation techniques have been developed since, resulting in some of New Zealand’s best-loved, rich and flavoursome examples, as exemplified by the ‘Alwyn’ and newly released ‘Proprietors Reserve’ ranges. I’ve detected the popular ‘Glazebrook’ tier has taken a step away from the more complex style towards freshness, fruit-focus and food-friendly elegance over the past several vintages, thus covering a broader range of offerings for this venerable Hawke’s Bay producer. Here, I review the new 2015 ‘Glazebrook’ Chardonnay. www.ngatarawa.co.nz
