Ngatarawa’s 2009 ‘Alwyn’ Releases

23-Jun-2011
Named after Ngatarawa's founding winemaker, Alwyn Corban, these flagship wines are produced in small quantities, and only in vintages the company regards as exceptional. Chardonnay and the Bordeaux varietals are what Alwyn established in 1981 when setting up the Ngatarawa operation, and they remain the varieties that showcase what Alwyn, his cousin Brian who is the chairman, and winemaker Peter Gough do today. The style is of integration, softness and harmony, being an extension of Ngatarawa's philosophy of accessibility, rather than ‘making a statement'. The wines have plenty built into them in their own ‘quiet' way, very much as the man who they are named after. www.ngatarawa.co.nz
