Ohau Gravels and Woven Stone 2011 Wines

16-May-2012

It is good to be able to review the 2011 wines from Ohau Wines nine months after their release last year (click here to read about the release event) and look more closely at the full range having given the wines some time to settle down. Ohau Wines has 20 ha of vines just south of Levin on the Kapiti Coast on S.H. 1 and the operation now has a cellar door that people travelling from Wellington can easily visit. The vineyards at Ohau were established and are tended by experienced viticulturist Kate Gibbs, who saw similarities with the soils of Marlborough and climate of Nelson. The 2011s are the third crop from the vines. The wines are made by Jane Cooper at Matahiwi Estate at Masterton. ‘Ohau Gravels' is the premium label and ‘Woven Stone' the subsidiary. www.ohaugravels.co.nz
