Osawa ‘Flying Sheep’ 2013 Selection

13-Oct-2015
Osawa Wines is the wine venture of Japanese businessman and wine lover Taizo Osawa. Falling in love with New Zealand’s rural beauty, he established his Maraekakaho vineyard in 2005, planting 35 ha in his 43 ha property with advice from Dr David Jordan and Gus Lawson. With Rod McDonald as his winemaker, the Osawa wines have proven very successful on the show circuit and in the international market, with 70% exported to Japan. There are different tiers including the ‘Winemaker’s Collection’ and ‘Prestige Collection’ at the top level. The ‘Flying Sheep’ brand originally appeared to be a stand-alone label, but has now become labelled as an ‘Osawa Wines’ tier. Here, I review a selection of the Osawa ‘Flying Sheep’ wines, all from the outstanding 2013 vintage. www.osawawines.co.nz
