Ostler 2011 Vintage Releases

10-Jan-2013

The 2011 growing season was a challenging one for the Waitaki Valley in North Otago. Though starting with promise with good heat and the double-edged sword of a large crop from successful flowering, the latter part of the season was marked by rain which increased the pressure from disease. Keys to success were crop thinning to ensure ripeness and patience which fine weather and the season would reward. Such years also provide the opportunity of making wines in styles that differ from the norm where predictability can operate. Jeff Sinnott and Jim Jerram took this path with the fruit from their ‘Ostler' site as well as that of growers Rob and Pam Crosbie in making the ‘Blue House' growers selection wines that come under the Ostler brand. The Crosbie's vines, beside the Otekaike River were planted in 2004 and are performing with increasing consistency. Here are my reviews of a selection of 2011 vintage wines. www.ostlerwine.co.nz
