Ostler’s New ‘Lakeside’ and ‘Caroline’s’ Waitaki Additions

18-Apr-2012

Jim and Anne Jerram's ‘Ostler Vineyards' wines, made by Anne's brother Jeff Sinnott, have been excellent examples of the cutting edge styles that are emanating from the exciting limestone soil-based Waitaki Valley vignoble in North Otago. Their 8 ha ‘Clos Ostler' site on Racecourse Road is the base, and is planted to Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. The Jerram's also source Pinot Gris and Riesling fruit from Rob and Pam Crosbie's ‘Blue House' estate, situated 12 km away from the Ostler vines. Coming on stream from the 2011 vintage are the wines from the ‘Lakeside Vineyard', 25 km away, on a site known as ‘Lemon Springs', at Lake Waitaki, developed by Paul Sinnott. The soils are more mineral with alluvial schist gravels, offering a point of difference, and the location is warmer. Here are reviews of the new ‘Lakeside Vines' wines as well as the latest release of the flagship ‘Caroline's' Pinot Noir. www.ostlerwine.co.nz
