Palliser Estate 2013 Riesling and Pinot Gris

09-Dec-2014

The whole Palliser Estate range of wines is extremely successful with Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay deemed classics of the Martinborough region, with a history of over two decades of continued excellence. I see the Palliser Riesling, which was also one of the founding varieties, first vintage in 1991, in the same light. The honoured view towards Riesling is shared by most wine enthusiasts but not by the general consumer! Conversely, Pinot Gris is more difficult to get consistently into the realms of high consideration for many wine interested people, but has found great popularity in the wider market place. It is a newer variety for Palliser Estate, the first vintage in 1999, no doubt a trial at the time, and developed beforehand to meet the resultant consumer demand! It’s ironic that style preferences for the wine geek and wine drinker don’t necessarily match! In any case, Palliser Estate makes both of these aromatic varieties exceptionally well. Here are my reviews of the 2013 Riesling and Pinot Gris. www.palliser.co.nz
