Pegasus Bay Gewurztraminer 2011 and Maestro 2009

02-Oct-2013
It is said that "variety is the spice of life”, and Pegasus Bay in the Waipara Valley, North Canterbury manages to craft a near-bewildering variety of wines extremely successfully. Much of the quality of their wines is due to the age of the vines and the long experience in managing them and making wines from them. Yet the Donaldson family seem to be able to attain instant success with new varieties. Two ‘spicy’ wines demonstrate these aspects, the recent addition to the range in the form of Gewurztraminer, and the Bordeaux-styled ‘Maestro’ red, blending Merlot with the spicy Malbec variety. Here are my reviews of the new releases of these wines. www.pegasusbay.com
