Pisa Range Estate ‘Black Poplar’ Pinot Noir 2012

04-Nov-2013

The special vineyard sites of Central Otago are becoming recognised as consistency of quality shows over successive vintages. One such site is the ‘Black Poplar Block’ in Warwick and Jenny Hawker’s Pisa Range Estate on the western terraces overlooking Lake Dunstan. The block is a 4 ha section named after 100 y.o. trees that are feature. Warwick and Jenny tend their vineyard to organic and biodynamic principles and the wines made by Rudi Bauer of Quartz Reef. The ‘Black Poplar Block’ has an enviable track record, indicating its special nature. Here is my review of the wine as tasted in August, but published now, as the wine has just been released. I saw the wine again, tasted ‘blind’ at the Central Otago Spring Release Tasting a month later (click here to see my report), and I was impressed with its restraint and stylishness there too. www.pisarangeestate.co.nz
