Porters Pinot Gris 2014 and Zoe Methode 2012

24-Sep-2014
Although John and Annabel Porter claim the smallest commercial winery in Martinborough, they have a creditable output of fine, elegant Pinot Noir and smart Pinot Gris wines that have a loyal following. As with all keen winemakers, there’s an inherent drive to experiment and innovate. Small batch winemaking has allowed John the ability to make a limited release ‘Reserve’ Pinot Noir in 2009 and again in 2012. Here, I review the new release 2014 Pinot Gris, and a specialist wine, the ‘Zoe’ Methode Traditionnelle 2012, named after John and Annabel’s daughter. This is the second such wine, John first making a sparkling in 2001, which according to John, Annabel is just finishing the last bottles now, necessitating replenishment of supplies. www.porterspinot.co.nz
