Redmetal Vineyards 2012 Merlot/Franc and Syrah

22-May-2013
It’s an exciting time for Grant and Sue Edmonds as they begin to put the ‘Redmetal Vineyards’ brand back out there. I visited Redmetal in February 2012 and discussed developments with winemaker Nigel Davies (click here to read), and a major innovation was the impending release of a Syrah. The Syrah had first cropped in 2009, but the decision to give the vines some more time before bottling wine under the Redmetal label was made. Although 2012 was a cool and challenging vintage in Hawke’s Bay, producing lighter and approachable wines, the Edmonds and Davies have released a Syrah to partner the entry level Merlot/Franc blend to test the water. Here are my reviews of the wines, which are eminently drinkable and offer value. Both wines sport the ‘Bridge Pa Triangle’ wine district stickers. www.redmetalvineyards.co.nz
