Rock Ferry and Trig Hill Whites With Age

26-Jul-2013
Just a month ago, I reviewed the Rock Ferry Trig Hill Central Otago Riesling 2012 and the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2011, and noted the youth of the former wine and the beginnings of development in the latter. (Click here to see the review article.) Ang Wilson, the Rock Ferry sales marketing director deemed it worthwhile sending the just-released Trig Hill Riesling 2010 at a point where it would show more character, and an older Rock Ferry Sauvignon Blanc 2005 to demonstrate the wine’s ability to age gracefully. These wines, grown by Ton and Fiona Hutchison were made by Allan McWilliams, one of Marlborough’s highly respected veterans with a vast experience in all styles. As Ang intimated, the oak-influenced Sauvignon Blanc showed no undue development such as asparagus or bean-like flavours, and the Riesling is now showing far greater detail than the 2012 vintage wine. Here are my reviews of these older white wines. www.rockferry.co.nz
