Sacred Hill 2010 Special Selection Reds

18-Jul-2012

Sacred Hill is one of the success stories of Hawke's Bay. From small beginnings, David and Mark Mason and their friend, winemaker Tony Bish made a tight range of Hawke's Bay wines from their base in the Dartmoor Valley. Their value tier Whitecliff has grown to be a international brand in its own right, and Sacred Hill encompasses the Hawke's Bay ‘Gunn Estate', Marlborough ‘Wild South', and Matakana ‘Ti Point' wines now. However, the pinnacle for Sacred Hill remains the limited production ‘Special Selection' wines, made from the very best fruit, and only in outstanding years. The ‘Sauvage' Sauvignon is one of the original ‘wild' Sauvignons, and the ‘Riflemans' Chardonnay is one of the top examples of that varietal. The ‘Brokenstone' Merlot and ‘Helmsman' Cabernet-based wines are world-beaters, as shown in the ‘Judgement of Taupo' tasting, these Bordeaux-varietal wines now beginning to be being joined by the ‘Deerstalker' Syrah and ‘Prospector' Central Otago Pinot Noir. The 2010 releases of the ‘Special Selection' reds show the continued progress of this top-flight range as they aspire towards perfection. www.sacredhill.com
