Saint Clair Pinot Noir – Gunning for Gold

27-Mar-2011
The Saint Clair winery has been utterly dominating with show awards with our most prolific variety, Sauvignon Blanc and the rich, pungent house style is extremely popular with many consumers. Saint Clair is no stranger with top awards for Chardonnay too, and has had great success with Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Merlot and Syrah. Saint Clair's Pinot Noirs have also gained their fair share of gold medals and trophies, but I get the impression that the efforts of the Ibbotson family and Matt Thomson's team will see the results become unfair in their favour. Two Saint Clair Pinot Noirs have been in the spotlight recently, winning golds, but more importantly showing even better understanding of styles and preferences at different price points. This is very clever and sophisticated wine making and wine marketing. www.saintclair.co.nz
