Saint Clair ‘Pioneer Block 4 – Sawcut’ 2009 Releases

18-Jul-2011
The ‘Pioneer Block' wines of Saint Clair represent limited releases of wines from special sites that produce wines of distinctive character. These wines are at the forefront of the expression of individualism in New Zealand. The ‘Pioneer Block' range arguably takes Saint Clair to greater detail and depth than any other producer with wines that express terroir. ‘Pioneer Block 4' wines are sourced from the ‘Sawcut' vineyard in the Ure Valley, approx. 40 km south of Blenheim. The vineyard is named after the Sawcut Chasm, a world-famous area for walking, the gorge following the Ure River. What makes it special is the high limestone content in the soils and a microclimate that sees a greater heat summation than is generally experienced in Blenheim. Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are planted, with the first commercially released wines vintage in 2004. Here are the 2009 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines. www.saintclair.co.nz
