Sea Level Nelson Pinot Gris 2013

23-Dec-2013
The Sea Level wine operation of the Smail family is a small, but well-run business with the expertise of winemaker Sam Smail and viticulturist Dan Manuge responsible for the output of a range of very smart wines. Of the 8 ha of grapes on the 14 ha property at Mariri on the Coastal Highway between tasman and Motueka, Pinot Gris accounts for approximately half of that planted. Generally, Sam makes the wines at the Whitehaven winery in Marlborough, where he is the winemaker, but as the Pinot Gris is machine harvested, it is thus sent to the nearby Anchorage winery for vinification, to minimising skin contact. Here, I review the new 2013 Pinot Gris. www.sealevelwines.co.nz
